treatment in progress

This Thomas Sheraton style chair (est. 1800) had been overpainted with as many as ten coats of black paint. The chair was painted in a theme of ivory and gold leaf at its origin. With the assistance of cross section analysis of paint layer samples sections the intended colors of the chair were identified. The original paint scheme is partially recreated on th right side of the chair. The left side shows many victorian additions and repairs. The treatment is underway at he Nathaniel Russel House on Meeting Street in Charleston , SC.
